Each year thousands of new academic publications enrich the Scientific.Net collection. It includes academic journals and book series that publish regular and special issues, volumes, conference proceedings, and monographs.
Challenge and solution
Scietntific.net is a main web portal of Trans Tech Publications Inc. (TTP) and represents one of the largest web resources providing high-demand content focused on science and engineering themes. In 2011, TTP decided to completely upgrade its web portal including new design, server and client side technologies. But no company will allow to stop its business while updating is in progress so one of main challenges was to keep on supporting and updating old application while creating and moving business logic to a new one. New application was written in ASP.NET MVC using Entity Framework for accessing MS SQL.
For a big and complex system, one of the main challenges we handle is understanding how business works till small details. Another challenge is to build the system that is maintainable for years and a new developer joining to the team can understand business logic just reading the code so in the end business and developers can speak in one shared language.
Results
After many years of continuous developing we can say that it was right choice. Web application automates all business activities of the company from searching new clients till delivering scientific periodicals to customers in print and digital format.
